RLR MSport has finally confirmed the three drivers for the upcoming European Le Mans Series 2021.
Malthe Jakobsen will be driving his second season for the team, after he showed impressive speed through 2020, and even more at the Asian Le Mans Series during February 2021.
He will be sharing the Ligier JS P320 with Alex Kapadia, who has raced for RLR MSport on several occasions. Kapadia is a very fast driver, and has a huge knowledge about LMP3 cars, so he will be an important figure for Jakobsen, who will be able to learn and improve even more.
Kapadia will also be a kind of mentor for Mike Benham. Benham is the Bronze rated driver at RLR MSport 15, but showed the speed in series like the Michelin Le Mans Cup 2019, where he won three of the six races. The season unfortunately broke into two, since the team had a huge shunt during the practice ahead of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya round, and had to pull their entry prior to any kind of points giving part of the weekend. They made a strong recovery, but the missing points from Spain resulted in Benham being out of the title run, that he shared with Duncan Tappy. Tappy is racing for United Autosports in LMP3 now.
It’s a big advantage, that the driver line-up for 2021 is set now. Jakobsen and James Dayson switched third driver constantly throughout 2020, which of course would give some disturbance, having to constantly mix drivers will different driving styles, and setup styles.
The European Le Mans Series 2021 is scheduled to start on 18 April at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
