MacNeil goes to Europe

A lot of people got quite surprised when the Proton Competition rolled out of their European Le Mans Series garage in WeatherTech colours.

And it all becomes clear now.

Cooper MacNeil will run the rest of the European Le Mans Series 2021.

The MacNeil family owns the WeatherTech company, so all cars run by Cooper for the last few years have had the sponsor logos more or less predominant.

MacNeil will be sharing the 911 RSR-19 #77 with Christian Ried and Gianmaria Bruni, leaving no space for Jaxon Evans.

The reason for the three drivers not being racing together at the season opener was due to a date clash for MacNeil, who other than running in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and now ELMS, also runs in the Ferrari Challenge North America.

Proton Competition and WeatherTech Racing started working together in January 2021, where they run a 911 RSR-19 in the IMSA series. Their Daytona 24 Hours was quite disappointing, with Kevin Estre getting hit even before the green flag, losing 10 laps due to repairs, and never recovered from those. The result was much better at Sebring 12 Hours, where they beat all the GTLM competition, despite the Silver ranked MacNeil against all the Gold and Platinum rated competition.

The next round of the European Le Mans Series 2021 will be run at Red Bull Ring on 16 May.
