26 cars on the entry list for Mid-Ohio

Round 3 of the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will have 26 cars entered, when the series goes to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

The DPi category has 6 cars entered, which are all the full-season entries. Cadillac is half the field, with Cadillac Chip Ganassi Racing #01, Mustang Sampling #5, and Whelen Engineering #31 running for the American brand. Konica Minolta Wayne Taylor Racing #10 and Meyer Shank Racing #60 will represent Acura with one car each. Mazda Motorsports #55 will run their sole Mazda entry for this year as well.

Konica Minolta Wayne Taylor Racing Acura #10 with Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque currently lead the DPi standings.

The LMP3 category has 6 cars entered too. Forty7 Motorsports #7 is the lone Duqueine D08 chassis, while Sean Creech Motorsport #33, Performance Tech Motorsports #38, Core Autosport #54, and Riley Motorsports #74 plus #91 all runs the Ligier JS P320 model. Core Autosport #54 are the championship leaders with Jon Bennett and Colin Braun.

14 cars are entered GTD, which is a mix of full-season cars, and sprint-only cars. Sprint løbene. Paul Miller Racing #1 and GRT Grasser Racing Team #19 represent Lamborghini. Pfaff Motorsports #9, Wright Motorsports #16, and Team Hardpoint EBM #88 are the Porsche representatives this time. Magnus with Archangel #44 is the only full-season Acura team, being joined by Gradient Racing #66 and Compass Racing #76 for the sprint championship. Vasser Sullivan will bring their pair of Lexus cars #12 and #14, while Heart of Racing Team #23 is the sole Aston Martin team, and Turner Motorsport #96 is the only proud BMW team, just as Alegra Motorsports #28 will defend the Mercedes star. CarBahn with Peregrine Racing #39 is the only Audi in the field, and will be racing for sprint honours only.

Wright Motorsports Porsche #16 with Patrick Long currently leads the standings, while Ryan Hardwick is ready for his first weekend, after his big accident prior to the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin #23 has chosen to mix their drivers, so Roman de Angelis will be paired up with AMR works driver Ross Gunn for the rest of the season. Team owner Ian James has put himself on the bench for now, until they need a third driver for the endurance rounds.

Christina Nielsen will have to miss out on this weekend, since Team Hardpoint EBM Porsche #88 only enters a single car, with the seat being taken by Rob Ferriol and Katherine Legge. Earl Bamber will take the role of team boss only this weekend.

There are no LMP2 or GTLM cars running this weekend, since the original plan was for them to be heading towards Le Mans. That race has however been postponed until August.

The race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will run on 16 May, with 2 hours and 40 minutes duration.
