There is one more change amongst the drivers at United Autosports USA #22, for this week’s FIA World Endurance Championship race at Portimao.
Fabio Scherer has been tested positive for COVID-19 twice within 48 hours, and that means that he can’t participate this weekend.
The team has had to call up Wayne Boyd, who is a bit of a multi talent at United Autosports.
The 30-year-old Brit has swapped between the LMP2 and LMP3 cars, throughout the past six seasons, and already has experience with the Portimao track in Portugal, since he has raced here many times in the European Le Mans Series.
The changes happens after the team already had to swap Filipe Albuquerque with Paul Di Resta, since the Portuguise driver ironically can’t participate in his home race, due to a date clash with his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship programme.
This leaves Phil Hanson – the only remaining driver of the original line-up – as the only driver to defend their championship lead in the drivers championship, since he is the only driver onboard car #22, who potentially can be crowned champion, once the season is over.
We wish a speedy recovery for Fabio Scherer.
The FIA World Endurance Championship race in Portugal will run for 8 hours, starting this Sunday at 12.00 CET.
