WeatherTech Racing with two cars at season finale

WeatherTech Racing will double up at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship 2021 finale, which will run this weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

Proton Competition, which is the service provider, has run a single Porsche 911 RSR throughout the season, but actually bought two cars from CORE Autosport, who ran the official Porsche programme in North America. But only one car has been active throughout the year.

The Petit Le Mans season finale will also be the final race for the GTLM category, with the IMSA series moving over to GTD Pro, with GT3 cars instead.

While Cooper MacNeil, Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet will pilot car #79 as usual, there will be three Porsche stars in car #97.

Frederic Makowiecki, Kevin Estre and Michael Christensen will run that car, and deliver a serious threat for the pair of Corvette Racing and BMW Team RLL cars.

Campbell, Makowiecki, Estre and Christensen were all active in the FIA World Endurance Championship finale in Bahrain last weekend, so they have been busy getting on a plane, and going to the American continent. All have previous experience from the race, in various Porsche racers.

The race will run on 12 November at 18.10 CET, and will be free to watch on IMSA.tv.
