Will Owen is back at United Autosports, once the 2022 season gets going.
Owen has previously raced for the English-American team in the European Le Mans Series, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
He took a year out of motorsport in 2021, but has gotten the hunger back for racing.
United Autosports has chosen him as the Silver ranked driver for the FIA World Endurance Championship alongside Phil Hanson and Filipe Albuquerque, as well as the Rolex 24 at Daytona alongside Jim McGuire, Phil Hanson and Guy Smith. He will race on board the #22 ORECA 07 Gibson LMP2 in both cases.
The team has plans for McGuire, Hanson and Smith to run the four IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races, which counts towards the Michelin Endurance Cup. But both Hanson and Smith are Gold-ranked drivers, which is against the regulations. The team is still convinced about their choice, since there has been no recall of a press release, or further explanations.
It’s possible to run two Gold, once Silver and one Bronze for the Daytona race, which makes the Hanson, Smith, Owen and McGuire combination possible.
Rolex 24 at Daytona is run on the final weekend of January 2022, while the FIA WEC season is scheduled to start at Sebring International Raceway in the middle of March, a couple of hours drive south from Daytona.
