Scherer new driver at HCR

Fabio Scherer will be the new third driver at High Class Racing in 2022.

The 22-year-old Swiss driver will race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship 2022 in LMP2, alongside Dennis Andersen and Anders Fjordbach.

Scherer made his LMP2 debut in 2021, where he was hired by United Autosports, for an FIA World Endurance Championship programme. The season ended with a victory in Bahrain.

He has moved very swiftly through the ranks in motorsport. He raced in 2016 in German and Italian Formula 4, followed up by another season in ADAC Formula 4 in Germany in 2017.

He raced in Formula 3 in 2018 and 2019, before racing in DTM for Audi Sport Team WRT in 2020.

Scherer was ranked as Silver in 2021, which made him attractive to United Autosports, since Phil Hanson was upgraded to Gold, alongside Platinum driver Filipe Albuquerque. But Scherer will be Gold in 2022, so he no longer fits into that driver combination.

But that makes it possible for High Class Racing to pick him up, since Dennis Andersen is ranked Bronze, and Anders Fjordbach is Silver.

The team still has to announce their fourth driver for the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January, but they have a free choice of driver, regarding the driver ranking.

Andersen and Fjordbach raced the Rolex 24 in 2021 as well, but was joined by Robert Kubica and Ferdinand Habsburg. The team sadly had gearbox problems only two hours into the race, so they had to retire the car.

2022 will be the first season for High Class Racing, in the full IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
