Pfaff Motorsports moves to GTD Pro

Pfaff Motorsports will take a step up the ladder in the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The Canadian team has raced in the GTD category for several years, but will be trying out a new category, which also consists of GT3 cars. They won the GTD category in 2021 with Zacherie Robichon and Laurens Vanthoor behind the wheel.

The difference between GTD and GTD Pro is only the free choice of drivers in the cars. So Porsche has naturally put two of their fastest drivers in the Porsche 911 GT3.R. Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet has several years of experience in the IMSA series, and will be full-season drivers of the car. That will be the only Porsche in the GTD Pro category, while more “Am” cars will be racing in the GTD category, including the defending Michelin Endurance Cup champions from Wright Motorsports.

Wright Motorsports will have Jan Heylen and Ryan Hardwick as their full-season drivers, with Zacharie Robichon being the third driver at the endurance races. Heylen replaces recently retired Patrick Long as the full-season driver in that car, while team owner Hardwick replaces Trent Hindman. The fourth driver for Daytona is not yet ready to be revealed.

Campbell and Jaminet shared the WeatherTech Racing GTE Porsche at the 2021 Endurance rounds, and know each other very well from various Porsche programmes around the world.

The 2022 season start for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will be on 21 January, with three days of testing and qualifying, ahead of the season opener one week later, on the very same Daytona track.
