Extra WeatherTech car in Daytona

One turns into two, turns into three Weathertech cars for the Rolex 24 at Daytona 2022, later this month.

WeatherTech Racing already has a Porsche and Mercedes entered in the GTD Pro category under their own name, and now a title sponsorship on another Mercedes-AMG GT3.

The team name will be WeatherTech, with Mercedes of Billings (Montana), and Proton Competition will also run this car, but with the Billings car dealer having the chance of being mentioned for the race.

Dirk Müller, Patrick Assenheimer and Austin Cindric will be the three drivers of the car, with the two first drivers having plenty of Mercedes-AMG experience from Europe, while Cindric has raced in both GTD and LMP2 cars at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. His regular job is racing in the NASCAR categories in the USA.

Assenheimer has primarily raced in the ADAC GT Masters, but has endurance experience from around the world as well.

Müller is an IMSA veteran, having raced for both BMW and Ford in the GTLM category. The GTLM category has closed down, so the GTE Pro category with GT3 racers is the professional future for GT racing in IMSA.

The team has already tested at Sebring International Raceway last week, and will be testing at Daytona International Speedway in 11 days’ time, prior to the 24 hours race at the Daytona track being run on 29-30 January 2022.
