New driver for Inter Europol Competition

Inter Europol Competition is slowly getting ready for their second season in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

The team is ready to announce all three drivers for the upcoming 2022 season.

Jakub “Kuba” Smiechowski and Alex Brundle will be joined by a new third driver onboard the ORECA 07 Gibson #34 LMP2 car.

That will be none other than the former Formula 1 driver Esteban Gutierrez. Sportscar racing is something brand new for the Mexican, who most recently has been test- and reserve driver for Mercedes-AMG in Formula 1. He now feels the need to get back to real racing, instead of just sitting in a simulator room all year long.

The team will say goodbye to Renger van der Zande, since the Dutchman has a contract with Cadillac Chip Ganassi Racing, which prevents him from doing the full 2022 season for the team – so they prefer to have a fixed set of drivers for the full season. That was an issue in 2021 with van der Zande having to skip one round due to date clashes.

The team did a fantastic job in their rookie season in the FIA WEC, finishing fifth in the 2021 Championship, which was their race results for all but two races.

The FIA World Endurance Championship 2022 is scheduled to start at Sebring International Raceway in Florida in two months time, with two days of Prologue, prior to the season opener itself on 18 March.
