United Autosports has confirmed their first two LMP2 drivers for the European Le Mans Series, in addition to three LMP3 drivers.
All five names are well-known faces at the British-American team, and was part of the team in 2021 – and even further back in time.
Phil Hanson and Tom Gamble are confirmed to race ORECA 07 Gibson #22 in the LMP2 once again. The pair finished second in the ELMS Championship in 2021, where Jonathan Aberdein was the third driver in the car. With Gamble being moved to Gold ranking in the FIA categorization, it’s no longer possible to keep Aberdein in the car.
Hanson has raced for the team in 2018, and has won both the ELMS and FIA WEC titles, on top of many race wins.
Gamble was part of their LMP3 team in 2020, and moved into the LMP2 outfit in 2021, where he was a Silver ranked driver. He did that job so well, that he now has been upgraded to Gold.
The team will announce the third driver this coming week.
The Ligier JS P320 #3 will be raced by the same three drivers as in 2020 and 2021. Jim McGuire, Duncan Tappy and Andrew Bentley will once again share the car, and will aim at bettering their 2020 results rather than 2021, where they finished 5th and 15th respectively.
Both McGuire and Hanson are active this weekend, at the 24 hours race in Daytona, where they share an LMP2 car, while Gamble is onboard the Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin #27 in the GTD category.
The European Le Mans Series 2022 starts on 17 April at Circuit Paul Ricard in France.
