Magnussen new driver at GMB

Jan Magnussen has been signed as a new driver for GMB Motorsport, for the final two rounds of the Michelin Le Mans Cup.

The experienced Dane will share the Honda NSX GT3 Evo #88 with Lars Engelbrekt Pedersen, during the races at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium, and the season finale in Portugal at the Portimao circuit.

Lars has teamed up with Mikkel Overgaard Pedersen so far this year, and that pairing won the most recent round at Monza in July. The team doesn’t reveal the exact reason of why they are splitting up the Pedersen pairing.

But no matter what the reason is, it’s a huge scoop to get the former Formula 1 driver Magnussen in the car. The Dane has won over 100 motor races in and outside of Denmark, and was a works driver for Corvette Racing for 15 years.

Magnussen was part of the High Class Racing outfit in 2021, with their LMP2 effort in the FIA World Endurance Championship, while the 2022 primarily has been in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia.

It will however be a bit special for two old archrivals to meet up. Team boss for GMB Motorsport is Casper Elgaard and Magnussen have swapped paint, tough words, and maybe a hand gesture or two over the years in the Danish Touringcar Championship, when they were battling for the top honors. But they will work together now, towards the big goal of securing an entry for the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2023, if the team wins the GT3 Championship – and which they are currently leading with Kasper H. Jensen and Kristian Poulsen in car #55.

On top of their international programme in the Michelin Le Mans Cup, we also have GMB Motorsport doing national racing in Denmark with TCR Denmark as the top of that pyramid, with karting, Yokohama 1600 Challenge and Yokohama SuperCup feeding into that.
