UA has car #23 signed – maybe

United Autosports has announced the three drivers for their car #23, which they are planning to run in the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Josh Pierson was announced way back in Le Mans week. Now Oliver Jarvis and Tom Blomqvist have been announced alongside the 16-year-old American.

But there might be a small stumbling block. The FIA is currently scrutineering all the driver rankings of all sportscar drivers in the whole world, and while a lot of drivers already got their 2023 ranking, they are still undecided about Pierson.

Pierson made his sportscar debut at Daytona back in January as a 15-year-old. He missed the first two rounds of the Asian Le Mans Series, since the ACO doesn’t allow drivers under the age of 16, to compete in ACO racing. So United Autosports decided to test instead, prior to the race debut – which turned into a race win at the very first attempt.

He made his debut in the FIA WEC at Sebring, where he instantly won with United Autosports USA #23.

Jarvis and Blomqvist have been teammates in the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for Meyer Shank Racing, where they won the DPi Championship with the Acura ARX-05.

Pierson, Jarvis and Blomqvist will race together in the LMP2 category. Pierson and Jarvis have been sharing the car throughout 2022, where Alexander Lynn was the third driver for most of the year. Lynn will however continue at Cadillac Racing in the FIA WEC in their new LMDh car, so he won’t be able to race for United Autosports any longer.

There is another challenge, with the FIA WEC races in Portimao and Monza clashing with the IMSA races at Long Beach and Canadian Tire Motorsports Park – in addition to the opening race Sebring, which is run on the same weekend as the IMSA 12 Hours of Sebring.
