Dutch substitute at UA

There will be a Dutch substitute in place at United Autosports for at least 2 of the 7 rounds in the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Giedo van der Garde will be the newest driver to wear the blue and red racing suits, when he jumps into car #23 in the FIWEC. Tom Blomqvist is the regular driver onboard the car, alongside Josh Pierson and Oliver Jarvis, but the Portimao and Monza rounds clash with the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races at Long Beach and Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.

There is a clash between the two series at Sebring, but the FIA WEC 8 Hours runs on Friday, while IMSA has their 12 hours race on Saturday. Van der Garde is already active that weekend, since he will be racing for TDS Racing together with Francois Heriau and previously mentioned Pierson.

Giedo van der Garde won the ELMS title in 2016, and then moved on to be a fixed part of the Racing Team Nederland outfit. That project has been put on pause, since Frits van Eerd is busy with other things in his life at the moment. So that makes van der Garde available to other teams.

The FIA WEC 2023 starts on 17 March at Sebring, while the Portimao round will be held on 16 April and Monza on 9 July.
