Heart of Racing Team returns with two cars

Heart of Racing Team returns to IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship 2023 with their two cars.

Just as in 2022, they will start with two Aston Martin Vantage V8 GT3 in a full-season run.

The defending GTD champions had made a few changes as Roman de Angelis swapped a former AMR works driver with another. Marco Sørensen will drive full-season in IMSA for the team. This is the first time for the defending FIA WEC GTE Am champion to drive a full IMSA season. He has participated in the 24-hour race at Daytona earlier – also for Corvette Racing in GTD Pro – but this time will be in the “Am” category in car #27. For the 24-hour race in Daytona, Darren Turner will be there to help, as well as the team boss Ian James.

In car #23, which participates in the GTD Pro category, Ross Gunn and Alex Riberas will continue to drive together for the entire season. They get David Pittard as the third driver in the longer races. Pittard has a strong connection to Aston Martin, and he’s close to being a works driver, even though he is not yet one. The team finished fourth in GTD Pro in the 2022 season, and would definitely want to try to copy the success of their sister car in the upcoming season.

The race calendar in IMSA has three date clashes with FIA World Endurance Championship, which means it is unlikely for us to see either Ross Gunn or Marco Sørensen in the latter in 2023. On the other hand, there is no date clash with European Le Mans Series.

The ROAR test on 20-22 January at Daytona International Speedway will open the 2023 season, one week prior to Rolex 24 at Daytona at the same track.
