UA got their third ELMS car sorted

United Autosports has announced the drivers for their third LMP2 entry for the 2023 European Le Mans Series.

That will be Phil Hanson, Marino Sato, and Oliver Jarvis.

Phil Hanson will contest his sixth ELMS season in a row for the team. The Brit has been Champion in both the FIA WEC and ELMS, and has often raced in both series in parallel programmes.

Oliver Jarvis is also active in the FIA WEC. The Brit is a sportscar veteran by now, but he still hasn’t competed in a full season of the European Le Mans Series. He has raced and won with Audi Sport, Mazda Motorsports, and most recently claimed the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship DPi Championship with Meyer Shank Racing in 2022. He will mostly be active on this side of the Atlantic for 2023.

The final driver in the car will be Japanese racer Marino Sato. Sato has raced in the FIA Formula 2 since 2019, and has tested in Formula 1 as well. This is his sportscar racing debut – and has the huge advantage of still being ranked Silver on the FIA driver rankings, and that is exactly what UA needs. He won the Euroformula Open Championship in 2019, while his F2 seasons haven’t been quite as successful.

2022 was quite bad results-wise for the USA, and they are definitely hoping to turn that around for 2023 – and Jarvis, Sato and Hanson are a very good prospects for being a winning car.

The European Le Mans Series starts on 23 April 2023 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain.
