Daniil Kvyat has been hired by Lamborghini as a new factory driver, for their upcoming LMDh programme.
The former Formula 1 driver started out his sportscar career at Sebring last month, being a part of the Prema Racing LMP2 outfit in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Kvyat will be part of the test- and development programme for the new Lamborghini LMDh car, which will make its race debut in 2024. He will also be one of the drivers for the IMSA and FIA WEC programmes in 2024.
In addition to Kvyat, the other Lamborghini works drivers Mirko Bortolotti, Andrea Caldarelli and Romain Grosjean are also part of the development of the new car. Ligier will build the car, while Lambo will use their own engine in the brand new car, which is going to compete in the Hypercar category in the FIA WEC, and the GTP category in IMSA.
Daniil Kvyat is currently sharing the LMP2 car with Mirko Bortolotti and Doriane Pin. The team finished in third position at Sebring, but are sitting second in the standings, since the race winning JOTA #48 doesn’t count towards the Championship, since they only use the first two LMP2 races as a warm up for their Hypercar programme, which starts at Spa Francorchamps.
