Proton changes driver for Le Mans

Despite the entry list for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans actually being locked two weeks ago, a change has just been announced.

Proton Competition Ford #44 has swapped Christian Ried for John Hartshorne onboard the yellow Ford Mustang LMGT3.

So there won’t any comeback for Ried after all, after he announced his retirement at the FIA WEC season finale in 2023. So it was a bit of a surprise, to see his name on the original 2024 entry list, and still being present, only two weeks ago.

Hartshorne has been a driver for TF Sport for many years, where he raced in their Aston Martin in both GT3 and GTE trim. He switched to JMW Motorsport Ferrari for the 2024 season in the European Le Mans Series, where he races alongside Ben Tuck and Phil Keen.

Tuck is also a part of the Proton Competition Ford #44 at Le Mans, so they already know each other very well. They will be joined by Ford works driver Christopher Mies, who has been racing and testing the car for the previous months.

Let’s see if more driver changes pop up, ahead of the scrutineering, that starts on 7 June 2024 in the Le Mans city centre.
