There will be another car manufacturer in the very popular Hypercar and GTP category, in the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The Genesis brand might not be known in the general public, but it’s related to Hyundai. They are entering the motorsport world, to make the name much better known, just as we have seen with DS, Infiniti and Cupra, who are active in other parts of the sport.
There are not so many details about the programme, other than it being an LMDh car, and that they will enter in the near future.
The press release doesn’t name anything about the associated team or teams, who are going to run the cars in FIA WEC and IMSA, but everything points towards them entering in 2026.
The announcement was made ahead of this weekend’s FIA World Endurance Championship round at the Fuji track in Japan, which probably isn’t a coincidence. Genesis is a direct competitor to Lexus (part of Toyota), and by making an announcement on their home race weekend, they are trying to steal a bit of their thunder, in a battle between the two Asian brands.
