IMSA WeatherTech SportsCarChampionship has revealed their 2027 race schedule.
It’s become a modern tradition, that next year’s schedule is released at the Sebring 12 Hours. In the past, it was at Road America in August, but when series like FIA World Endurance Championship already had their schedule out by then, it was IMSA ending up with a lot of criticisms, in case of date clashes – the roles have been swapped, although a World Championship series has always been the priority in the public mind.
The schedule for 2027 is very similar to this year’s version.
The season starts with Daytona 24 Hours, followed by Sebring 12 Hours. All categories, GTP, LMP2, GTD Pro, and GTD, will participate at those two classics. After that, the LMP2 cars will be on holiday until June.
In the meantime, the GTP and GTD cars will be on the streets of Long Beach for 100 minutes of racing in April, while GTD Pro joins in at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in May, with the first 2 hours and 40 minutes race of the year.
100 minutes of street racing in Detroit will include GTP and GTD Pro, until all the categories join up at Watkins Glen for the 6-hour race.
LMP2 will be the fastest category at the 2 hours and 40 minutes race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Mosport), with GTD Pro and GTD being the other two categories in the only Canadian race of the year. This round usually sees a date clash with the FIA WWEC round in Brazil, so a lot of the GTP drivers won’t be able to participate in the Canadian race.
August will start off with a 6-hour race at Road America with all classes, while the GTD Pro and GTD cars will have a stand-alone race of 2 hours and 40 minutes at VIRginia International Raceway.
All categories will race for 2 hours and 40 minutes at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in September, before the season finale once again is 10 hours at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, the Petit Le Mans.
Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen, Road America and Petit Le Mans all count towards the Michelin Endurance Cup.
The race schedule for Michelin Pilot Challenge was also revealed, but we are still waiting for the other IMSA support series, that you typically find on the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship weekends.
