McLaren United AS has confirmed their second driver for the upcoming FIA World Endurance Championship 2027 season.
Laurens Vanthoor is the latest signing for McLaren Racing for the upcoming season.
The Belgian driver will have a parallel programme with McLaren in Hypercar in the FIA WEC, and the Michelin Endurance Cup races in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for Porsche Penske Motorsport – a deal that was announced earlier this week.
That will give the 2024 World Champion a chance to fight for the world title once again, including the overall win at Le Mans, which is his really big target. If he achieves that, he would be only the second driver to do so, following Nick Tandy, who has won the Nürburgring 24, Spa 24, Daytona 24, and Le Mans 24 in the top category.

Vanthoor will be racing for the rest of the sesaon for Porsche, but will join the test programme for McLaren later this month – a programme that Mikkel Jensen has just done a roll-out for. The first real test is planned at Imola, later this May.
Laurens Vanthoor has been racing for Porsche Penske Motorsport since 2023, when their 963 model was introduced in the FIA WEC. The German manufacturer chose to focus on IMSA only, following the 2025 season, so Vanthoor and teammate Kevin Estre were moved into an IMSA car, which they will share for the full season.
The next job for Laurens Vanthoor will be the 24 Hours of Nürburgring next week. He will be driving for Lionspeed Porsche, alongside Laurin Heinrich and Ricardo Feller.
