Kelvin van der Linde has been called in as a substitute for ABT Cupra at the upcoming ABB FIA Formula E World Championship round in Berlin.
The South African driver will replace Nico Müller, who has a date clash with the FIA World Endurance Championship, which races on the same weekend at Spa Francorchamps.
This actually creates an issue around van der Linde himself, since he should had been racing FIA WEC for Akkodis ASP. But his ABT contract has priority over the Lexus contract, which was only announced in November 2023.
Van der Linde has previously raced for the ABT Cupra outfit, at the start of the 2022/23 season, when he replaced Robin Frijns, while he was recovering from a wright injury that he sustained at the opening round in Mexico. He has been official test- and reserve driver all the way back to the Audi days with ABT, in addition to his many years as an Audi works driver.
It was announced a week agro, that Jordan King would substitute for Nyck de Vries at the Berlin rounds, since the Dutchman has FIA WEC commitments with Toyota Gazoo Racing, that takes priority over the Formula E contract with Mahindra.
There are more drivers in the field with double substitutions that weekend, so expect more announcements in the coming days.
