Edoardo Mortara goes to Mercedes AMG

The rumours have been around for some time, but now it’s official – Edoardo Mortara is going to Mercedes AMG in DTM for the 2017 season.

The new former Audi Sport driver was fighting for the DTM championship 2016 until the very final lap, but was beaten by Marco Wittmann from BMW.

Mortara hasn’t been satisfied with the support from Audi throughout the season. For example we saw that he had to give up a podium to Jamie Green at Nürburgring, where team orders were imposed shortly before the finish of the race.

Mercedes AMG boss for DTM, Ulrich Fritz, says:

“We are delighted to finally announce Edoardo Mortara as one of the team’s race driver for 2017. Edo and Mercedes AMG came to an agreement for some time but due to respect to Audi Sport, we didn’t announce the signing of their title contender earlier. Edoardo Mortara is a perfect fit for our team. He’s not only an experienced race driver but also a great character. We’re looking forward to a successful partnership with him.”

We are yet to find out exactly which of the teams he will be placed in, and when his first test for his new team will happen.
