The Verizon IndyCar Series was back on the ovals, when Iowa Corn 300 was the 11th round of the year. Will Power had grabbed Pole Position ahead of Josef Newgarden while Andretti Autosport driver Ryan Hunter-Reay was the only guy to squeeze in front of the last Team Penske car with Simon Pagenaud. Florian Latorre continued his progress through the season, when the 4th round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup was run at Silverstone. The young French driver had grabbed Pole Position for the race this Sunday, ahead of the defending Championship Michael Ammermüller and Dylan Pereira.
