Pietro Fittipaldi will be doing the DTM race at Misano after all, this coming weekend.
The Brazilian wasn’t scheduled to do the race for WRT Team Audi Sport, since he was going to be on reserve driver duty for HAAS F1 Team. So it was announced several weeks ago, that Andrea Dovizioso would race in the car instead, for this single weekend.
But Audi Sport Team Rosberg has run into a problem – or in fact an appendicitis issue for Jamie Green, which he needed surgery for. So he is not ready for the DTM race this weekend.
The number of drivers who have tested the new DTM cars, which was introduced this season, is very limited. So Audi Sport has managed to convince HAAS and/or Fittipaldi to go to Italy instead of Canada.
The former Audi Sport DTM driver Mattias Ekström would have been another option, since he tested the car ahead of testing with Dovizioso – but the Swede has apparently said no, since he closed his DTM chapter at the opening round at Hockenheim in 2018.
The DTM races on this Saturday and Sunday will be run at daytime, opposite to the Misano races last year, which were night races.
