Nicki Thiim will be racing the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2021 after all.
The Dane has been called in for NorthWest AMR #98, where he will be super-sub for Augusto Farfus.
Farfus has other contractual obligations that weekend, so Paul Dalla Lana and Marcos Gomes will have a new teammate for the 24 hours race.
Thiim is the defending World Champion in GTE Pro, but Aston Martin pulled out of sportscar racing as works teams, with the owners moving their focus to the re-branded Formula 1 team, so he hasn’t raced in the FIA WEC this year.
He claimed his one and only Le Mans win so far in 2014, where he was part of Aston Martin Racing #95 alongside David Heinemeier Hansson and Kristian Poulsen. That win was in the GTE Am category too, where Thiim makes a comeback for this year’s race.
There will be a total of four AMR cars at the 24 hours race. Other than the #98, there will be two entries from TF Sport with their #33 from FIA WEC and #95 from ELMS, in addition to D’Station Racing #777 from FIA WEC.
Prior to the 24 hours race in France, there is another FIA WEC race to do. That will be the 6 Hours of Monza, where Dalla Lana, Gomes and Farfus will run this weekend.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans will run on 21-22 August 2021.
