TF Sport has chosen to switch brands once the 2023 season is over.
The British team has pretty much been synonymous with Aston Martin, ever since they first appeared in British GT in 2014, and with their entry in the Michelin Le Mans Cup in 2016, where they won the title, and moved on to the European Le Mans Series, where they finished second, and then further on, into the FIA World Endurance Championship.
The team will move to the brand new Corvette Z06 GT3.R in 2024, running two cars in the FIA WEC.
It is, however, not the first time, that they are running something other than an AMR. When Salih Yoluc decided to move into the LMP2 category in the European Le Mans Series, the team got hold of an ORECA 07 Gibson, running it under the Racing Team Turkey banner, as part of the Tom Ferrier run outfit.
When Aston Martin Racing shut down their works team following the 2019-20 season, it was left to TF Sport to more or less be the factory team. They have run cars in both the European series, as well as IMSA and the Asian Le Mans Series.
While the GTE category has been a fixed part of the FIA WEC since its start in 2012, the category will disappear at the end of 2023, with GT3 being the new spec in both FIA WEC and ELMS in 2024. The GTE cars are insanely expensive to both buy and run.
With no news released about a new AMR GT3 car, the team chose to switch brands, since Corvette will bring out the brand new Z06 GT3.R for 2024, after plenty of testing in 2023. So that car will have all the latest updates and development in GT3 racing, and be guaranteed to be at the top.
As something brand new, the individual teams will be selected by the car manufacturers, with only two spaces for each GT3 brand this coming season. It is an extra plus if the manufacturer has a car in Hypercar, so the brand is represented in both categories. So that is another plus for the GM brand, running Cadillac in Hypercar.
