Debut win for Rene Rast

Rene Rast claimed his maiden win, when this weekend’s second race was run at the Hungaroring in Hungary.

The German had claimed the weekend’s, and in fact his career’s second DTM Pole Position, and was leading almost from start to finish.

The qualifying had once again been an Audi domination, where only Marco Wittmann was the only BMW in top-6, starting second.

So the race result was quite dominated by Audi, with Mattias Ekström in second, while Maxime Martin in BMW finished third. Nico Müller and Jamie Green followed him in two more Audis.

Ekström was ahead of Rast after their pitstop, but Rast overtook him again with 5 minutes left of the race, and went on to take the victory.

It was a really close race, with top 4 finishing within 1,8 seconds of each other.

Best Mercedes was yesterday’s winner Paul Di Resta in sixth.

In the Championship standings we have Rene Rast in the lead now, followed by Lucas Auer, who had a completely pointless weekend. Jamie Green is in third ahead of Mattias Ekström, Gary Paffett and Mike Rockenfeller. Best BMW is Timo Glock in seventh – but only 21 points away from Championship leader Rast.

The next race weekend in DTM will be held at the Norisring on July 1st and 2nd.
