Tappy promoted for 2022

Duncan Tappy gets a promotion at United Autosports.

The Brit has raced for UA for the last few seasons in the LMP3 category, and will be active in that role too, when the Asian Le Mans Series 2022 starts next week.

But then he will move on to an LMP2 programme for the rest of the year, but still with the British-American team.

It’s not that long ago, that the team announced Tappy would once again team up with Jim McGuire and Andrew Bentley in the ELMS series in car #3 in the LMP3 category. Those plans have now changed, so he will share car #22 with Phil Hanson and Tom Gamble.

But a huge advantage regarding Tappy is that he is a Silver-ranked driver, despite his huge experience. That is a big asset for the team, to have a quick Silver-ranked driver, to hopefully fight for the ELMS title and a Le Mans ticket for 2023.

He will have a dual programme, alongside the beforementioned McGuire and Guy Smith, at the next round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Phil Hanson was originally announced as the third driver on that programme, but they have missed an important part in the IMSA LMP2 rules, that only a single Gold-ranked driver is allowed in the car, and Smith already has that role.

The replacement for Tappy in the Ligier JS P320 Nissan #3 in the European Le Mans Series 2022 will be revealed at a later stage.

The next 12 Hours of Sebring will be on 19 March at Sebring International Raceway, while the European Le Mans Series starts on 17 April in Le Castellet.
