COOL Racing will enter the Asian Le Mans Series 2023.
The team has been active in Ligier European Series, Michelin Le Mans Cup, European Le Mans Series and the FIA World Endurance Championship.
The team has made an announcement of a single ORECA 07 Gibson LMP2 car, to be run by the two team owners Alexandre Coigny and Nicolas Lapierre. They were paired up for the ELMS for several years.
But they will have a new teammate, whom they never have shared a car with so far. But it’s still from within the team, since young Danish racer Malthe Jakobsen is the chosen driver. Jakobsen signed with the team during winter 2021/22, for a dual ELMS and LMC programme in an LMP3 car, as well as LMP2 testing for the team.
Jakobsen was part of a recent test at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and that made it clear, that the Dane is ready for the challenge.
Jakobsen has previously raced in the series. He was part of RLR MSport and their LMP3 programme in Februar 2021. Just like the 2021 season, the 2023 season will consist of two races in Dubai, followed by two races in Abu Dhabi – and all that in just over one week’s time.
COOL Racing is currently 5th in the LMP2 standings in the ELMS, while the team leads the ELMS LMP3 championship, and sits third in the LMC LMP3 standings.
The Asian Le Mans Series 2023 starts with the first race on 11 February at Dubai Autodrome, followed by another race on the 12th, and finishes off at Yas Marina Circuit on 18-19 February.
