Proton ready for both WEC and IMSA

Proton Competition is ready with their new Porsche 963, which they are going to race in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The German team was very early to put in an order for the brand new LMDh car from Porsche, who will compete in the Hypercar category in the FIA WEC, and the GTP category in IMSA.

The team will run with both Gianmaria Bruni and Harry Tincknell as the two drivers for both championships. A third driver will be announced for the FIA WEC rounds, and for the 10-hour race at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

Bruni didn’t get the call up for Porsche Penske Motorsport when they were deciding about their drivers, but the Italian has had a long collaboration with Proton Competition already in the European Le Mans Series. So the former Formula 1 driver is surely fired up to show his speed, to perhaps being able to race his way into a works seat for the coming season.

Tincknell has also raced for Proton Competition on/off for the last few seasons, but also has strong ties to Multimatic, who is building the chassis, that the 963 is based on. They are also delivering dampers for both the Porsche road- and race cars. So the experienced Brit is of course high on the list to race that specific car.

The future plans for the 2024, is for the team to compete in both championships with two cars in each series.

Proton Competition will make their Porsche 963 race debut at the FIA WEC round at Monza on 9 July, while the IMSA debut will be at Road America on 6 August 2023.
