There are almost no changes in Aston Martin Racing’s driver line-up in 2017.
The champions from 2016, Nicki Thiim and Marco Sørensen are once again back in the number 95 car, while Darren Turner continues in the number 97, accompanied by Jonny Adam. The two men have driven together a few times before in some FIA WEC races, but this will be their full season together. The third drivers in both cars are yet to be announced.
These two cars will compete in the GTE-Pro class, while the number 98 car will start in GTE-Am. There is no change in the driver line-up in the 98 car as it will once again be Pedro Lamy, Mathias Lauda and Paul Dalla Lana. They will drive a 2016 car and at the same time get Dunlop tyres, which has proven to be a winning combination in 2016. This particular car has been so close to win the championship quite a few times, but then something always went wrong. With this driver combination, they hope to finally be able to take the championship home.
Two drivers who aren’t a part of the 2017 Aston Martin Racing line-up are Fernando Rees and Richie Stanaway. Rees got removed from the car in the middle of the 2016 season, while Stanaway left near the end of the season, when he had other duties in Australia. It remains an open question whether or not these two will be the two drivers who will help at Le Mans and maybe the races before that.
