The first practice of the year for the European Le Mans Series was held under good weather conditions.
A cloudy, but dry afternoon, where the temperatures were around 11 degrees in the air, had 35 cars going on track to test out the equipment.
The fastest of all in the LMP2 class was G-Drive Racing #22 with Ryo Hirakawa setting the time. Ben Hanley at DragonSpeed #21 was the second fastest. So in a way you can call it a DragonSpeed 1-2, since DragonSpeed runs the G-Drive car in the ELMS this year.
In LMP3 we saw United Autosports #2 with Sean Rayhall as the fastest guy ahead of RLR MSport #15, where Alex Kapadia was quickest in the car, with a time that stunned the team a little. They encountered a damper problem later in the session, but that should all be fixed for Friday’s running.
It was an Aston Martin 1-2 in the GTE category. TF Sport #90 with Nicki Thiim behind the wheel drove the fastest lap, followed by Beechdean AMR #99, where birthday boy Darren Turner was the fastest in that car.
The second free practice will be held on Friday at 9.00 local time, before the qualifying at 14.05.
