Filipe Albuquerque will stay at United Autosports in 2018.
The Portuguese driver was announced in the Weathertech Sportscar Championship at the Action Express team not long ago, as a full season driver, alongside countryman Joao Barbosa.
Today came the announcement from United Autosports, that Albuquerque would continue with them in the European Le Mans Series in 2018, where he will pair up with Phil Hanson in a Ligier JS P217. It will however only be for 5 of the 6 rounds in the ELMS, since the opening race clashes with the Long Beach race in the IMSA series. A yet unannounced driver will pair up with Hanson for that race. If the team will get a starting permission for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, he will also pair up with Hanson in the French classic.
Albuquerque shared his car with Hugo De Sadeleer and Will Owen during the 2017 ELMS season, where the team finished second in the LMP2 Championship.
United Autosports could be a team that is looking towards LMP2 or even LMP1 in the FIA WEC 2018, but there weren’t any news regarding that in their press release today. But if that happens, Filipe Albuquerque could potentially be a driver there as well.
