The FIA Formula E Championship has announced the entry list including drivers and car numbers in the upcoming 2017/18 season.
Tom Blomqvist is the 20th and final driver, in probably the toughest Formula E field in history.
That resulted the Andretti Formula E team having their own announcement stolen from them by the series regarding Blomqvist. The announcement of Blomqvist is a goodbye to Robin Frijns, who has been driving for the team during the last two seasons.
Tom Blomqvist is a BMW Motorsport works driver in DTM, and that is probably the reason why the team was more interesting in having a BMW driver race alongside their other BMW works driver, Antonio Felix da Costa. BMW themselves will enter the Formula E series in the 2018/19 – and Frijns wouldn’t fit well into that, since he is driving for Audi in GT3 racing – and regularly beating the BMW drivers. To be fair, BMW hasn’t officially announced that they will take over the Andretti entry, but it is expected for them to make the same manoeuvre as Abt Schaeffler did with Audi Sport.
