Massa new Formula E driver

There will be at least one new driver in the field when the ABB FIA Formula E Championship season 5 starts in December.

The drivers has loads of experience from other single- seaters, but not the electrical kind of cars.

It’s 37 year old Felipe Massa who has signed with Venturi Formula E Team for the upcoming season.

Massa has 15 years experience from Formula 1 where he has 11 victories and 41 podiums.

The Brazilian has signed a 3-year contract with the team, so it appears that he he fully committed to this part of the sport.

It’s not yet clear which one of the Venturi drivers that he will replace. Maro Engel and Edoardo Mortara are the current drivers for the team, but both are Mercedes factory drivers, so could be that Mercedes will keep them for their own upcoming Formula E team.

Felipe Massa will already start testing the new second generation Formula E car in the coming weeks. The car is significantly different visually from the previous car, but the battery capacity has been extended, so it’s no longer necessary to change the car during the middle of the race, but the drivers will be able to go from start to finish.

The next round of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship season 4 will be run this weekend in Berlin.
