Nissan e.dams signs Günther

Nissan e.dams has signed Maximilian Günther for the upcoming ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Season 8.

German driver Günther makes the move over from BMW i Andretti, where he has raced for the last couple of seasons. BMW has chosen to pull out as a works team, so they don’t need works drivers anymore, who only races in Formula E.

The young German will team up with Sebastien Buemi, who continues with the Japanese/French team for another year. Buemi has raced for e.dams since the very first race in Beijing in 2014. The team was Renault badged back then, before they moved over to their brand colleague Nissan. He has only missed two rounds, which was New York in 2017, since he had an FIA World Endurance Championship date clash, running for Toyota Gazoo Racing.

Maximilian Günther made his debut in the 2018/19 season for GEOX Dragon, and switched to BMW for the 2019/20 season, for whom he has claimed three victories since.

2020/21 wasn’t a good year for Nissan, who started out with the old car before changing to the new one in Monaco. Buemi only scored points at three rounds, with Oliver Rowland scoring in 7 races, with the season finale in Berlin being the highlight with a P2.

Rowland is on his way to Mahindra Racing, so he will be present in the series as well in 2021/22.

Season 8 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is scheduled for a start in Saudi Arabia on 28 January 2022.
