Nico Prost quits Renault

When the final race of the 2017/18 ABB FIA Formula E Championship race has been run in New York in once month’s time, it will be the final race for Nico Prost at Renault e.dams.

The team has already announced that they will change to Nissan Nismo in the upcoming season, and since Nico has connections to Renault via his dad, Alain, it already pointed towards the end of his contract, when it was announced last summer. We have to go all the way back to the 2015/16 finale to find his latest victory, which was in a race where Buemi and Lucas Di Grassi took each other out of the race.

While Renault e.dams teammate Seabstien Buemi is constantly in the top of the Championship, and won it in Season 2, Nico Prost hasn’t been able to add much to the teams points tally during the last few seasons.

So that leaves Prost without a seat in any kind of racing car, since his sportscar seat at Rebellion Racing was handed off to other drivers.

But we probably won’t have to wait long until he is back in a car, since he has proven his speed, as long as the car can run at the top.

The status of Sebastien Buemi in the team is also unknown, since he is currently a Toyota Gazoo Racing employee in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Nissan and Toyota are big competitors on the Japanese market, so it’s questionable if they allow him to race for both teams.

The final race of the season will be run on 14-15 July in New York.
