DS Automobiles and Techeetah will become new partners in the upcoming ABB FIA Formula E Championship season.
DS Automobiles already issued a press release back in June where Jean-Eric Vergne and Andre Lotterer were announced as development drivers on the new Gen2 car, that all the teams will use from the upcoming season onwards. So that was the first hint of what was happening – but there hasn’t been an official confirmation until yet.
Techeetah won the title in 2017/18 together with Jean-Eric Vergne, with Renault technology in the back of the car. It was a season where the costumer team was actually faster than the works team e.dams, who lacked pace all season long. It was clear that Renault would pull out of Formula E after the 2017/18, only to change to Nissan branding.
Techeetah didn’t dare to count on that, and has now become exclusive partner with DS Automobiles, who finishes the collaboration with Virgin Racing.
Virgin Racing confirms in a separate press release, that they will be on the grid in the coming season, and that the announcement of a new partner will be released very shortly. The French car manufacturer has worked together with Virgin Racing for the last 4 seasons, but there has been rumours for a long time, that this would end after the recently concluded season.
The Techeetah team has announced that there will be more details in October – right before the final testing will happen. But is there any doubt that Mr. Vergne and Mr. Lotterer will be in the two cars again?.
Season 5 starts on 15 December in Saudi Arabia.
