Panasonic Jaguar Racing are doing a driver change in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.
Nelson Piquet Jr. are no longer part of the team, after both parties have decided to end their deal after one and a half seasons. Piquet Jr. is the very first Formula E Champion in history, when he won the title in 2014/15. It’s been a bit tough for him to follow up on that result, since the Brazilian has been unlucky to be in teams without podium potential, or only on very limited occasions.
He will be replaced by Alex Lynn, who has a bit of experience from the electric series. He did one season plus one weekend for DS Virgin. He started out with a surprise Pole Position in his very first race, but he never managed to get on the podium, since he had a lot of technical issues and collisions with other drivers. The team unfortunately didn’t decide to extend his contract for the 2018/19 season. He did however get a job as works driver at Aston Martin Racing in their FIA World Endurance Championship GTE Pro programme.
Lynn has previously tested for the team, when they made their debut in 2016, but it wasn’t more than a test back then.
Nelson Piquet Jr. won’t be without a job either. He goes to Brazil, and will once again race in the Stock Car Brazil.
The first race for Alex Lynn at Panasonic Jaguar Racing will be the Rome ePrix, which will be run on 13 April 2019.
