Alice Powell was on top of the podium just a few days ago, when W-Series held their final race of 2019 at Brands Hatch. In 10 days time, she will be in a race car in the USA.
Powell has been hired by Heinricher Racing w/Meyer Shank Racing, to race the yellow and black Acura #57 alongside Katherine Legge at Virginia International Raceway.
There has been quite a few changes on the driver front in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship team. Legge has been there since the beginning of the season at Daytona in January, but has been paired up with Ana Beatriz, Simona De Silvestro plus Christian Nielsen during various events.
But it’s a breath of fresh air by Heinricher Racing to choose Powell, who finished third in the W-Series Championship behind Jamie Chadwick and Beitske Visser – two drivers who, by the way, are junior drivers at Aston Martin and BMW respectively.
Powell has previous raced in Formula Renault, Formula 3 and GP3, but ended up in a long break away from the motorsport, because she couldn’t find the budget to extend her racing career. Her luck was that the W-Series popped up, and now she gets her debut in the IMSA series.
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Virginia International Raceway is scheduled for 25 August 2019.
