PR1 with new colours at Daytona

PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports has presented their plans for the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January 2021.

The team has made a deal with Ben Keating, Scott Huffaker, Nicolas Lapierre and Mikkel Jensen, who will share the ORECA 07 Gibson with number 52.

Keating will bring Wynn’s colours with him, that we have seen on his Ford, Mercedes and Porsche cars, throughout the previous seasons. He will also bring other companies, that are related to his car dealerships in one way or another.

Huffaker has been related to PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports since 2016, and made his LMP2 debut in 2020 for the team. The 20-year-old American finished second in the LMP3 championship in 2019, before helping the team to the LMP2 title in 2020.

Nicolas Lapierre has loads of LMP2 experience from Europe, and he will bring all that experience with him to the USA. The French driver has won two FIA WEC Championship, and has turned into a shareholder of Cool Racing, where he already has claimed their first FIA WEC victory, in addition to doing very well in the European Le Mans Series and Michelin Le Mans Cup.

Mikkel Jensen won the LMP3 Championship in the ELMS 2019, moving on to the G-Drive Racing in the ELMS LMP2 category, where he showcased his speed at all race weekends, and finally grabbing the win at the season finale. Jensen made his American debut for Tower Motorsport by Starworks at Petit Le Mans 2020, and won the LMP2 category right away. He was called up again for the season finale at Sebring, where he finished second. He will try to keep the 100% podium statistic in the USA at Daytona.

The full team won’t meet until the ROAR test, which starts at Daytona International Speedway on 22 January 2021, with the 24 hours race being run one week later.
