Points standings after Paul Ricard

The European Le Mans Series race at Paul Ricard in France has made the Championship standings somewhat more interesting now than they were prior to the weekend.

The totally superior (prior to this weekend) Team WRT #41 is still leading, but now only by three points, ahead of the winners of the race, G-Drive Racing #26, who also scored a bonus point for Pole Position. The defending Champions from United Autosports #22 are 21 points away from the lead. But with a total of 78 points still to race for, there is definitely nothing decided yet.

Amongst the LMP2 Pro/Am teams, it’s still G-Drive Racing #25 leading, but with Racing Team Turkey #34 moving much closer after today’s win. Ultimate #29 sits third in the standings, but equal on points with #34.

Cool Racing #19 stays in the lead of LMP3, and has actually moved even further away from the competition, so they lead by 27 points. With such a lead, they can’t even be caught at the next round, no matter what happens. DKR Engineerings #4 has moved into the second position in the Championship, with their win today. RLR MSport #15 has moved into third with today’s result, but they need to start digging into the Cool Racing #19, if they want to keep their championship dreams alive. If they lose more than 14 points to Cool Racing #19 at the next round, they are out of the running for Gold. But on the other hand, there are four other teams within 8,5 points, right behind them. So they need to focus ahead, instead of looking over their shoulders.

It’s probably no surprise to anybody – at least those who watched the race today – that Iron Lynx Ferrari #80 still leads the GTE standings. The Italian team is 14 points ahead of Spirit Of Race Ferrari #55, while AF Corse Ferrari #88 sits third, just to points ahead of Proton Competition Porsche #77.

But everything can happen during the final 12 hours of racing in the European Le Mans Series 2021.

The next round will be held at Monza in Italy on 11 July.
