Phil Hanson will be racing for United Autosports once again in 2022.
The Brit has signed a new contract with the team in the FIA World Endurance Championship onboard car #22, which he will share with Filipe Albuquerque.
Hanson arrived at the team in 2018 and started racing in the European Le Mans Series, moving into the winter season of the Asian Le Mans Series, where the team claimed the title. 2020 was a fantastic year for the team, since they both won the European Le Mans Series, and the FIA World Endurance Championship in LMP2.
But he didn’t make his sportscar debut onboard a UA car. He raced in both the Asian Le Mans Series and the European Le Mans Series, plus a bit of the FIA World Endurance Championship, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Tockwith Motorsport, until they ended their collaboration abruptly mid-2017.
Since he arrived at UA, he has done a total of 42 races, won 13 of them, been on the podium 26 times – with 19 of those bring in the last 22 races. No matter what the team did in 2020, and how much damage on the first lap, or wrong tire choices etc, they pretty much always ended up on the podium anyway.
The team with Phil Hanson in the car is currently 3rd in the European Le Mans Series LMP2, while they are sitting fourth in the FIA World Endurance Championship LMP2 standings.
