Oliver Askew returns to the NTT IndyCar Series for the final three races of 2021.
The American has made a deal with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, to drive their third car – the car that Santino Ferrucci and Christian Lundgaard have raced with earlier this year.
Askew made his Indycar debut in 2020 for Arrow McLaren SP, but got some health issues, following a huge crash at the Indy 500. That, combined with issues within the team prior to that, resulted in him not getting his contract renewed for 2021, so he was left without an Indycar seat for this season.
He has raced in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this year, but was called up for Race 2 in Detroit, after the nasty crash for Felix Rosenqvist in Race 1. So he was back at Arrow McLaren SP for a single race, before he was contacted by Ed Carpenter Racing, where he replaced Rinus VeeKay, who had a bicycle accident and broke his collarbone.
Askew won the Indy Lights Championship in 2019, so everybody expected good things from him in Indycar. He has shown glimpses of that, and that has given him the chance at RLL, following a test for them earlier this year.
The three remaining races of 2021 are Portland, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and Long Beach.
Oliver Askew will be driving car #45 for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
