Calderon new driver for Foyt

Tatiana Calderon will finally get a chance in the NTT IndyCar Series in the 2022 season.

The Colombian has signed a contract with AJ Foyt Racing, where she will race the ROKiT Chevrolet #11.

It won’t however be a full season for the rapid lady. She will only do the road and street courses, while the car will be handed over to a yet unnamed driver at the ovals.

28-year-old Calderon has primarily raced in single-seaters so far, including GP3, Formula 2, and most recently in Super Formula. She has also raced in sportscars, where she first did a season in the European Le Mans Series, and then moved into the FIA World Endurance Championship in the LMP2 category for Richard Mille Racing Team.

This will be the first time since 2015, for a female racer to do an Indycar race, on the regular racing tracks, with Simona De Silvestro having that honour. Since then, both De Silvestro and Pippa Mann has been racing at the Indy 500.

Tatiana Calderon has already tested for the team at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in July 2021, and will be back in the car this week, where the team is testing at Sebring International Raceway.

The NTT IndyCar Series 2022 starts on 27 February on the streets in St. Petersburg, Florida.
