Acura presents ARX-06 for real

Acura has finally shown their new ARX-06 LMDh car without camouflage.

The car will participate in the IMA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the brand new GTP category, and has the possibility to race in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But the current indications are not pointing towards that in its debut season.

The team has already started testing the car now, and it will have it’s race debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January 2023, where the new GTP category will make it’s debut. Just like the current ARX-05, the car is being build with a collaboration with ORECA, and the front end looks very much like the current car, despite all the new cars having to fit into some different dimensions and weight limits.

The cars are significantly heavier now, due to a common hybrid system across all brands in the LMDh category, and hybrid means batteries, which means more weight. The Hypercar category in the FIA WEC has a minimum weight of 1030 kilos, so it’s expected to be somewhere around that area too in IMSA. The weight however is one of the things that can be adjusted in the BOP changes between the different brands, just like it’s done in the current DPi and GTD/GT3 categories.

The 24 hours race in Daytona will run on 28-29 January 2023.
