The defending FIA World Championship winner in LMP2 Pro/Aam, Francois Perrodo, will compete in the Rolex 24 at Daytona 2023 with three very strong teammates.
Perrodo will bring his Championship winning teammate from the previous three seasons, Nicklas Nielsen, with him. Nielsen is a Ferrari works driver, and part of their new Hypercar programme in the FIA WEC. Nielsen got his Ferrari breakthrough in GT racing, but moved into LMP2 for 2022, as a warm-up for Hypercar.
Matthieu Vaxiviere has previously raced together with Perrodo, when he did LMP2 back in 2017 and the 2018-19 seasons. Since then, he has become a very important part of the Alpine Elf team in Hypercar, and will be racing for them again in 2023 but in LMP2.
Last but not least, we will see one of the absolute best real Silver-ranked drivers, in the shape of Julien Canal, racing the AF Corse ORECA 07 Gibson #88. Canal has driven sportscars for many years, and has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GTE Am category three times, while the more recent seasons has been onboard LMP2 material, claiming even more podiums.
So the LMP2 category will have crazy talented drivers in it this year, with one superstar after the other – well, the ones who isn’t racing a GTP or GTD car. It will be super difficult to predict, which of the ten teams is going to come out on top in this year’s 24-hour race.
The race will be held on 28-29 January at Daytona International Speedway.
