WTM thrown out of Spa race

WTM by Rinaldi Racing #12 has lost their Pole Position, and has been thrown out of the European Le Mans Series meeting at Spa Francorchamps.

The reason is down to their Bronze-rated driver Torsten Kratz not doing a single lap in the official sessions, other than the Bronze test on Friday afternoon, and that doesn’t count towards the approved sessions, since no Pro drivers are on the track.

The team decided to skip FP1, to save tires for the race. They had a technical issue in FP2, so they only managed to do 9 laps, which all were done by Leo Weiss and Oscar Tunjo, without Kratz getting a single lap.

The regulations state that the Bronze driver MUST participate in either free practice or qualifying, and since the Qualifying was done by Oscar Tunjo – who by the way put the car in Pole Position for the race – they fall foul of those regulations.

So that makes it only 11 starting LMP3 cars for the race tomorrow.
