TF Sport enters LMP2

TF Sport has been synonymous with GT racing throughout the past many seasons. They will expand the team to at least one LMP2 car.

The British team has bought a brand new ORECA 07 Gibson LMP2 car, that they will enter in the European Le Mans Series for the 2021 season.

The drivers will be well-known faces.

Salih Yoluc will continue to race for the team, as the team’s Bronze-rated driver. He has previously raced in LMP2 in Asian Le Mans Series, and he will be racing in LMP2 at the Rolex 24 at Daytona later this month too.

Charlie Eastwood has been teammates with Yoluc since 2018. The pair was very close at winning the 2019/20 GTE Am title in the FIA World Endurance Championship, by winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in September 2020, but ended up finishing second in the championship standings.

They will be joined by an LMP2 expert in the car. Harry Tincknell will be the third driver of the ORECA #34. Tincknell won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in his debut in 2014 for JOTA Sport, and won the ELMS title with the same outfit in 2016. Those results gave him a works driver contract with Ford in GTE Pro for FIA WEC, and he was hired by Mazda for their DPi programme from 2018 onwards, and will race for them too in the 2021 season. That DPi programme currently results in a date clash between the IMSA race at Mid-Ohio and the ELMS race at the Red Bull Ring. The team hasn’t announced yet, who will replace Tincknell for that race.

The team will be running under the Racing Team Turkey name, while TF Sport will be hidden away.

TF Sport will continue within GT racing too, having already announced a Rolex 24 at Daytona programme, a British GT programme, and an Asian Le Mans Series programme.

The European Le Mans Series will start on 13 April with test sessions, ahead of the first race of the season at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 18 April.
